Catch the opening-range break — filtered, not naked.
A naked opening-range break is a coin flip. This pair watches your whole list for the break, filters it by relative volume and VWAP so you only see the real ones, and draws the break, target and stop on the chart the moment price closes through.
The screener scans your list
Every symbol you load, checked against its opening range in real time. When one closes through with volume and VWAP behind it, the SIGNAL cell lights up.
The tagger draws the plan
On your chart: the opening-range box, the ORH/ORL levels projected to the right edge, the breakout tag, the measured-move target, and the stop on the opposite side.
Filtered by design
A break on 0.6x volume at lunch isn't the same as a break on 2x at 9:45. RVOL and VWAP filters separate them so you're not chasing noise.
Alerts fire on the close
Not on a wick. The alert only triggers when a bar closes through the level on your chosen timeframe, so price oscillating around the line can't spam you.
Every input is yours
Open Settings and tune any of these — no code, no fee. This is the part the all-in-one suites don't give you.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Opening range (minutes) | 5, 15, or 30 — set the OR window to match how you trade the open. |
| RVOL average length | How many bars the relative-volume baseline averages over. |
| RVOL 'hot' threshold | How much above average volume counts as a real break (default 1.5x). Raise it to be stricter. |
| Breakout must agree with VWAP | Require longs above VWAP / shorts below, or turn it off to see every break. |
| Breakout must be on hot RVOL | Require the volume filter to pass, or just flag breaks that don't. |
| Draw box / levels / target / stop | Toggle each drawing independently — keep the chart as clean or complete as you like. |
| Tag the retest | Mark the lower-risk retest of the broken level as a second entry. |
| Table position | Move the status table to any corner. |
| The 12 symbols | Swap in your own watchlist — any stock, ETF or future on TradingView. |
Get the break on your phone
The screener isn't something you have to sit and stare at. Arm the alert once and TradingView pushes you a notification — phone, desktop, or email — the moment any name on your list closes through its opening range with the volume and VWAP filters passing. You find out the break is real without watching twelve charts.
What triggers it
A confirmed close beyond the ORH (long) or ORL (short) that also clears your RVOL and VWAP filters — the same bright SIGNAL you see on the board. Wicks and half-signals don't fire it.
One alert, your whole list
You don't set an alert per symbol. One alert on the screener covers every name you've loaded — swap your watchlist and the alert follows.
Setting it up (about a minute):
| 1 | Add the screener to a chart and set that chart to the timeframe you want confirmation on (e.g. 5-minute). |
| 2 | Click the alarm-clock Alert icon at the top of TradingView. |
| 3 | Set the condition to the ORB screener and "Any alert() function call." |
| 4 | Under Notifications, turn on Push (phone), Popup, or Email — whatever you want. |
| 5 | Create. The message tells you which ticker broke, the direction, and the RVOL behind it. |
Push notifications require the free TradingView mobile app, signed in to the same account. The alert fires on the bar close, so you get the confirmed break, not every intrabar poke.
Arming an alert requires real-time data for the symbols loaded. NASDAQ symbols work on any TradingView plan; NYSE and some other exchanges may need TradingView's real-time data add-on for that exchange. The board still displays every symbol live regardless.
Reading the chart
- SIGNAL — LONG ✦ / SHORT ✦
- The bright cell: price closed beyond the opening range AND cleared the volume and VWAP filters. The dim long/short is a partial — it broke, but missed a filter.
- OR L-H
- The opening-range low and high for that symbol — the levels being watched.
- RVOL
- Relative volume: current volume vs its recent average. Above your threshold = 'hot'.
- VWAP above / below
- Where price sits relative to the volume-weighted average price — your intraday fair-value line.
